IGCSE maths tutoring in Dubai runs two ways: at home with a tutor who lives in the UAE and holds the MoHRE Private Teacher Work Permit, and online with specialist tutors worldwide. Lessons are live, for one learner or a small group of up to six, and they follow the syllabus the school entered the learner for.
Three qualifications are sat in the UAE under the name IGCSE Mathematics. Cambridge runs Mathematics 0580, graded A* to G, and Mathematics (9-1) 0980, graded 9 to 1. Pearson Edexcel runs International GCSE (9-1) Mathematics A, code 4MA1. They share most topics and part ways on papers, calculator rules and grade scales, so IGCSE maths tutoring in Dubai starts by settling which of the three a learner sits.
Cambridge splits each syllabus into a Core tier and an Extended tier. Core candidates take Paper 1 and Paper 3 and reach grades C to G on 0580, or 5 to 1 on 0980. Extended candidates take Paper 2 and Paper 4 and reach A* to E, or 9 to 3. Extended carries all of the Core content and adds to it, so the tier shapes a whole year of study.
Pearson's 4MA1 is linear, so both papers are taken in the same series at the end of the course. Foundation candidates sit Papers 1F and 2F, targeted at grades 5 to 1. Higher candidates sit 1H and 2H, targeted at grades 9 to 4 with grade 3 allowed. A calculator is allowed in both papers, and about 40% of the questions are common to the two tiers.
Four things stay the same across IGCSE maths lessons in Dubai, whoever teaches them and wherever they run.
Every local tutor on Educrest holds a valid UAE private teacher permit.
Lessons are live with one tutor, for a single learner or a small group of up to six.
A lesson runs 60, 90 or 120 minutes, scheduled in Gulf Standard Time around the school week.
Teaching follows the code the learner is entered for: Cambridge 0580 or 0980, or Pearson 4MA1.
Dubai's private schools carry more UK curriculum pupils than any other system. KHDA figures reported in January 2025 put the UK curriculum at 37% of private school pupils in 2024-25, inside a sector of 227 schools and 387,441 pupils. IGCSE Mathematics sits in the years before Sixth Form on that path, which is why maths tutoring here turns on a syllabus code and a tier.
KHDA figures reported in January 2025 give the UK curriculum 37% of Dubai private school pupils in 2024-25, the largest share of any system.
Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0980 and Pearson 4MA1 all sit under the IGCSE Mathematics name. Cambridge offers 0980 in June and November to centres in the UAE and Oman.
Schools on the September calendar opened on 31 August 2026 and close on 2 July 2027, with winter break from 14 December to 3 January.
At-home lessons in Dubai are taught by UAE residents holding the private teacher permit. Online lessons reach every emirate, taught by specialist tutors worldwide.
Tell us the board and the tier
Cambridge 0580, Cambridge 0980 or Pearson 4MA1, the tier the school entered, and the series the learner sits. The entry decides which papers lessons work towards.
Set the slot and the lesson length
Lessons run 60, 90 or 120 minutes in Gulf Standard Time. Choose the days that sit clear of school hours and of anything else in the week.
We match a tutor
At home in Dubai, the tutor is a UAE resident holding the private teacher permit. Online, the match reaches specialist tutors wherever they live.
The first lesson starts with a diagnostic
The tutor works through questions at the entered tier to find where the method breaks, and the plan starts from that point.
Review as the series approaches
Topic coverage is checked against the syllabus so no section goes untaught. Where the fit with a tutor turns out wrong, a replacement is arranged.

Ways to learn
At home in Dubai
A tutor who lives in the UAE and holds the MoHRE Private Teacher Work Permit comes to the home. At-home lessons are opening in Dubai and Abu Dhabi first.
Online and live
Specialist tutors worldwide teach live online, reaching every emirate. A tutor living outside the UAE teaches online only, and questions are worked on a shared screen.
IGCSE maths lessons meet learners at different points of the course, and the starting point shapes the first few weeks.
They are aiming above grade C on 0580, or above grade 5 on 0980, and meeting surds, algebraic fractions, differentiation and functions for the first time.
Cambridge advises Core entry for candidates expected to achieve grade D or below, and Extended entry for those expected to achieve grade C or above.
Both papers come at the end of the course, a calculator is allowed in each, and about 40% of the questions are shared with the other tier.
Cambridge and Pearson each run a November series. Work is planned backwards from the paper dates the board publishes, with the results date already known.
Paper 1 without a calculator and Paper 3 with a scientific calculator, each 1 hour 30 minutes and 80 marks. Grades C to G on 0580, 5 to 1 on 0980.
Paper 2 without a calculator and Paper 4 with one, each 2 hours and 100 marks. Grades A* to E on 0580, 9 to 3 on 0980, with all the Core content inside it.
Papers 1F and 2F, each 2 hours and 100 marks, both sat in the same series. A calculator is allowed in both, and the tier targets grades 5 to 1.
Papers 1H and 2H, each 2 hours and 100 marks, targeting grades 9 to 4 with grade 3 allowed. A Higher formulae sheet is printed inside the paper.
A lesson opens on a question the learner has yet to secure, works it with the method written out in full, then takes a second question of the same type from another angle. Non-calculator work is practised with the calculator off the desk.
Cambridge's principal examiner report for June 2024 names where candidates lost marks on 0580. Six of those habits can be trained in lessons.
Accuracy through a long calculation
IncludedRounding early, or a rough value of pi, moves the final answer. Extended answers need at least three significant figures unless a question asks for another form.
Method written down
IncludedMethod marks go when working is missing or hard to follow, and digits such as 4 and 9 blur together. Lessons train legible, complete working.
Show that questions
IncludedThese need every step written out from the information given. Lessons practise starting at the stated quantities and finishing where the question says.
One algebra step to a line
IncludedTwo rearrangement steps on a single line is where simultaneous equations come apart. Lessons slow the line down until the manipulation holds under pressure.
Answering in the form asked
IncludedA fraction stays a fraction, three significant figures means three, one transformation means one. Reading the instruction to the end is worth marks.
Calculator-free fluency
IncludedCambridge Paper 1 and Paper 2 carry half the marks in their tier with no calculator. A list of formulas is printed on page 2 of every paper, and the rest comes from memory.
Maths help in Dubai is arranged in several ways. These rows set out what Educrest does.
Who teaches at home
Educrest: A tutor resident in the UAE who holds the MoHRE Private Teacher Work Permit.
Other options: The permit requirement applies to every individual who gives private lessons to students in the UAE.
Which syllabus is followed
Educrest: Lessons are set to the code the learner is entered for: 0580, 0980 or 4MA1.
Other options: Three qualifications share the IGCSE Mathematics name, and their papers, tiers and grade scales differ.
Cambridge changed its papers for exams from 2025. Each tier now has one paper sat without a calculator, Paper 1 at Core and Paper 2 at Extended, and the two papers in a tier carry equal time, marks and weight. Papers 3 and 4 require a scientific calculator, and algebraic or graphical calculators are not permitted. Surds and exact trigonometric values joined the Extended content, while linear programming and box-and-whisker plots left it. Teaching time was unchanged.
Three sit under the IGCSE Mathematics name. Cambridge Mathematics 0580 is graded A* to G. Cambridge Mathematics (9-1) 0980 is graded 9 to 1 and is offered to centres in the UAE and Oman in June and November. Pearson Edexcel International GCSE (9-1) Mathematics A carries the code 4MA1.
The school makes the entry. Cambridge advises Core entry for candidates expected to achieve grade D or below on 0580, and Extended entry for those expected to achieve grade C or above. Core reaches grades C to G and Extended reaches A* to E. No lesson promises a grade.
At Cambridge, Paper 1 at Core and Paper 2 at Extended are sat without a calculator. Papers 3 and 4 require a scientific calculator, and one with trigonometric functions is strongly recommended. Algebraic and graphical calculators are not permitted. On Pearson 4MA1, a calculator is allowed in both papers.
Yes. At-home lessons are opening in Dubai and Abu Dhabi first, taught by tutors who live in the UAE and hold the MoHRE Private Teacher Work Permit. MoHRE introduced that permit with the Ministry of Education in December 2023, and it is granted for two years. A request names the community.
Yes. A lesson is live with one tutor, for a single learner or a small group of up to six. Sharing works best when the learners sit the same tier of the same syllabus, since papers, calculator rules and grade scales differ across 0580, 0980 and 4MA1.
Cambridge introduced a paper without a calculator at each tier, Paper 1 at Core and Paper 2 at Extended, and rebalanced durations and marks so both papers in a tier carry equal time, marks and weight. Teaching time was unchanged. Surds and exact trigonometric values joined the Extended content.
Cambridge awarded IGCSE grades through a portfolio of evidence route in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE in place of the written exams. Pearson cancelled its May and June 2026 International GCSE exams in the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait and Lebanon, and graded from work submitted by schools.
Cambridge released June 2026 IGCSE results on 18 August 2026, and gives 14 January 2027 for the November 2026 series. Pearson gives 20 August 2026 for June 2026, 21 January 2027 for November 2026, and 19 August 2027 for June 2027. Grade thresholds are set for each series.
